Preventative Medicine and it’s effects on Colorectal Cancer

This week in the Independent Study and Mentorship program, I went more of the preventative medicine route and wrote two research assessments. In addition to that, I contacted more professionals for interviews. In my first assessment, I wrote about Cancer prevention and screening and how it is the next step in the era of precision medicine. One of the exciting things I learned was that although cancer risk varies within a population, the population will have different risk factors about genetics and environmental factors. Although cancer risk varies within a community, the population will have various risk factors because of genetics and environmental factors. A high-risk section of the population will pertain and increase over time due to age and exposure. In my second assessment, I applied this knowledge to learn more about Colorectal cancer, inclining prevention to personalized medicine. One of the things I learned in this article is that the majority (seventy to eighty percent) of colorectal cases are sporadic, meaning it is related to lifestyle. Furthermore, age is one of the most defending risk factors. Only a small portion is at risk due to family genetics. Furthermore (except in the Caribbean), Colectoral cancer is more common in men.
