ISM Beginnings

The past weeks of ISM have been a huge learning experience for me. It consisted of new information, instruction, and assignments. The first few days I spent coming up with a color theme to brand myself with and working on my introductory speech. Although I truly enjoy public speaking, I tend to talk really fast leading me to stumble over my words when I get nervous or excited. As this year progresses I hope to work on my articulation skills. After that, I set up my LinkedIn profile and my digital portfolio. Once that was finished I drafted potential interview questions and did some research about the Oncology field in 2020. Throughout these weeks I have realized how intricate and complex the field of oncology is. However, the assignments have allowed me to see just how many routes I could take in ISM this year. Throughout my research this week I have learned about immunotherapy, precision medicine, cancer prevention and interception, and cancer health disparities in 2020. I was surprised to learn just how quickly this field was evolving and how technology such as artificial intelligence was impacting my field of study. It has opened my eyes to many different possibilities of things I could research this year.
