First Interview and Learning About CDK5

This week in the Independent Study and Mentorship Program, I completed my first interview on Friday. I interviewed Dr. Pozo, a French neurologist who researched the CDK5 (Cyclin-dependent kinase 5) protein. From speaking with Dr. Pozo, I learned that she received an opportunity to study at a United States lab. From there, she researched CDK5 and learned how it affects the development of cancers such as breast, lung, pancreatic, melanoma, colon, and thyroid. After that, she decided to focus that new knowledge on small cell lung cancer. On Friday, this week, I decided to invest in Grammarly Premium so that as a dyslexic, I can ensure having the correct spelling and grammar as much as possible. I also worked on my assessment numbers five and six, where I wrote about my recent interview and an article of Dr. Pozo's, which included her research on CDK5. One of the things I learned this week is that CDK5, unlike other family members, is known for its role in the central nervous system instead of the cell cycle. Additionally, I learned how CDK5 could be a target for developing new cancer treatments. It was fascinating, and I enjoyed meeting Dr. Pozo and learning about CDK5 and it's effects on her field.
